Tour of Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons

Day 1 : Arriving at Jackson International Airport - Drive To Colter Bay Village

Dawn (and half of the bike) at Jackson Int'l Airport     On June 19th we arrived in Jackson, Wyoming around mid-day MDT.  The landing was interesting, as the plane approached from the south, dropped to just a few hundred feet and slowed for landing before making a 180º turn around a hill to line up with the runway.  During this maneuver the plane is below the top of that hill, and the mountain winds make the approach even more interesting.  Jackson is a small airport, with only one runway and a small terminal.
We picked up our rental car and drove to Colter Bay Village, which is north on Jackson in Grand Teton National Park.  We did some sight seeing along the way, had lunch, and then crashed out for about 2 hours in our cabin since we had gotten up at 3am Eastern time that morning.  We spent the afternoon marvelling at the views of the mountains, shopping for souveniers, and reserved a horseback trail ride for the next afternoon.  It was about 40ºF and raining all evening, quite a change from the muggy summer weather at home.
